HYPE CYCLE FOR CONSUMER GOODS

Nielsen recognized by Gartner as a vendor for Image Recognition, Revenue Growth Management, and Trade Promotion Optimization in the 2018 Hype Cycle report for Consumer Goods, 2018. Gartner notes, “Consumer goods companies focused on growth are accelerating their digitalization efforts to meet both the needs of an increasingly demanding consumer and to navigate a rapidly changing retail environment. CIOs can reference this Hype Cycle for insights and trends.”

Gartner notes that “growth and market share continue to be consumer goods companies’ top objectives, but technology investments designed to improve processes, generate efficiencies and manage cost remain important. Artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics are driving an increasing number of technologies on the Hype Cycle. While their adoption is two to 10 years out, consumer goods companies are hungry to leverage these capabilities to accelerate business. Technologies like the blockchain are promising big benefits in a number of use cases, particularly track and trace. CIOs recognize the potential, but remain skeptical of their business benefit, and find it difficult to justify investment. Continuing retail consolidation and the specter of new digital competitors that may even come from other industries create additional pressure to innovate with technology. As competitors, suppliers and partners adopt emerging technologies, consumer goods companies should be wary of secondary effects that may be more disruptive than the initial digital change.”
